lest we forget

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

It was Remembrance Day here yesterday

It’s also known as Poppy DayArmistice Day (the event it commemorates) or Veterans Day

It’s a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918 (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice).

No matter where you looked here yesterday, everyone you saw was wearing a poppy on their clothes

It really is brilliant

A fantastic sign of respect

The minute’s silence was observed all over the country too

We had stopped for brekky at the services on the M25

Even there, they had service personell and a bagpipe player

They performed a small tribute ceremony

They were from the South Ockendon Branch of the Royal British Legion

Such nice people

Holly had a good chat with them

With his 27 year Military career, they had a lot in common

They even gave Holly a plaque from their branch

How nice was that?

Days like this continue to remind us just how much is sacrificed, for all the freedoms we mostly take for granted

May we always honor those who have paid the ultimate price

LEST WE FORGET
